Pidyon HaBen is a well known מצוות עשה that is done in ארץ ישראל and outside of the land of Israel. The mitzvah is especially exciting for the parents of the newborn as it occurs once in a lifetime and is a tremendous זכות מן השמים to merit to be able to do this mitzvah.
